Esther Myers is an internationally known author, lecturer, educator and researcher in dietetics and evidence analysis. She is the CEO of EF Myers Consulting, Inc which was formed in 2009. Her consulting focuses collaborative initiatives in international practice-based research and dissemination of evidence analysis principles, Nutrition Care Process and Model (NCPM), and International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology (IDNT) using quality improvement and change management concepts.
Dr. Myers is the author of Nutrition Today columns on public policy use of evidence analysis and NCPM/IDNT.
Dr. Myers held the position of Chief Science Officer for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics from 2000 to July 2012. She focused her efforts on research activities needed for the dietetics profession. She was instrumental in establishing a system to complete systematic reviews on nutrition topics using the Evidence Analysis Library and Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines. Dr. Myers was also valuable in the development of the Nutrition Care Process and International Nutrition and Dietetics Terminology, the standardized language system for nutrition care and electronic health records.
Myers was also instrumental in providing support to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the formation of the Nutritional Evidence Library (NEL) which supported the 2010 and 2015 U.S. Dietary Guidelines. Esther has presented workshops around the world and was keynote speaker at the International Union of Nutrition Sciences.
Prior to joining the Academy In 2000, Myers completed her 25 year Air Force career which culminated in serving as Chief Consultant to USAF Surgeon General. During her Air Force career she was an advocate for the role of dietitians in health promotion and the use of quality improvement methodology. Esther received a doctorate from Kansas State University, a master’s degree from the Ohio State University, dietetic internship from the United States Air Force, and undergraduate degree from North Dakota State University.
